This brings this year's edition of the festival to a close.
They made it! Images Executive Director Petra
Chevrier,
Installations Programmer Scott Berry, Artistic Director Chris
Gehman, Programmer Chris Kennedy (not shown, Programmer Jane
Kim).
Gabe Sawhney & Co.'s Hallway installation was rocking
to the crowds (got to get that flash animation going on to
really show you how this works!)
ILaura U. Marks' curated programme of Experimental
Media from the Arab World started the day on a challenging and
fascinating note. Personal fave was the inventive and revealing
animated short "Sad Man" by Lina
Ghaibeh (Lebanon).
Mohamed Soueid was in attendance preceding his seminar and
the screening of his "Nightfall".
Karen Guttman's"Self Portrait in 5 Vowels" was
among the delights on offer at the "At a Loss for Words" programme.
"At a Loss for Words" contributors Karen
Kew(Gold), Jorge
Lozano(The End of Thought), Karen
Guttman (...Vowels), Larissa
Fan (In the Garden).
Erik Rutherford reveals the depths of his narcissism (hilariously)
following screening of his "Back to Me"
Film-maker and director of Toronto's Alucine Festival
Jorge Lozano.
Local artist Daniel Olson (R) peeled back the layers in
his video Snow Job, here with friend Wendy Rofine (R).
Christina Zeidler's second screening of the festival, "Kill
Road" was a huge hit of the "Ticklish Subject" series.
Daniel Barrow's Toronto return for "The Face of Everything" brought
tender wit together with pure magic-lantern delight.
Barrow on his perch in house-centre.
For the grand finale, Images' catalog mascots make
their big screen debut in the archive overdrive mix of
Vicki Bennett (aka. People Like
Us) from the UK.
Post-sceen, the crowd moved en masse to the historic
El Mocambo for the Images 2004 Wrap Up Wrap Party.
Images Board newcomer Mike Zryd fit right in as the
evening's MC and prize-master.
Among the winners, Toronto's own Christina
Zeidler accepts the kudos.
Winnipeg's auteur of the overhead, Daniel
Barrow joins
the fun.
Outgoing Images Artistic Director takes a bow for
a job well done.
After providing a festival's-worth of high maintenance
audio tech support, Ben Mayer takes a well-deserved break.
At the party, board-member Mike Zryd gets acquainted
with James Missen of Ottawa's Available Light Screening
Collective - sponsor of several of the day's programmes.
If i'm not mistaken, a picture of Images' Guest Relations
Coordinator Mackenzie Muldoon ended last year's diary
so she'll end this one too. Thanks for tuning in and
we'll see you at next year's festival.
