Trench Coat Mania

Viewer discretion is futile. - Jubal Brown

What’s worse than winning a gold medal at the Special Olympics?

The true voice of a now culture can be heard on the internet, cable TV, paranoid surveillance, ‘reality TV,’ Judge Judy, Tom Cruise, J-Lo, Ebonics, mayonnaise, Ritalin, Jesus Christ and Britney. There is no escape, get jiggy with it, there is no end in sight. We are in the era of the eternal child. The phenomenon of endless adolescence is a key to understanding our present world, in which there is a fascinating tendency towards the vacuous. The intelligence of people has drastically decreased while the speed of “information” exchange continues to increase. This rapid exchange necessitates the negation of elements like content, meaning, truth and beauty, and the dumbing down of culture to easily saleable, consumable, product-oriented entertainments. And the number one target audience is the adolescent.

This program is partly rooted in the belief that an artist should make the worst possible things, like the libertines of de Sade, who, by giving form to their societies’ worst nightmares, were freed from them. The manifestation of any Self constitutes an invisible minority; we are all alone, we are all deviant idiots, and the charm of idiocy transcends all politics of race, class, sexual orientation and gives form to the true face of humanity, and the current level of cultural devolution.
