“The military isn’t just about high-tech warfare anymore.
It’s also investing millions of dollars in high-tech entertainment….
New media is quickly finding its place in the New World Order.”
– Ed Halter
A multi-media presentation on the historical relationships between
the video game industry and the U.S. military by Village Voice
critic and New York Underground Film Festival producer Ed Halter.
Topics include the ancient relationships between games, entertainment
and war, the military roots of gaming, and the ways in which real
wars are depicted in commercial games. Halter investigates the US
military’s current hopes to win new recruits through games
like America's Army and Full Spectrum Warrior,
and how contemporary artists invoke the role of gaming in the new
military-entertainment complex through game-related artworks.
Ed Halter is the Executive Producer of the New York Underground
Film Festival and a contributing writer for The Village Voice.
He has written about film, video and other media for Indiewire,
