Tom Berner Award
This award, sponsored by LIFT, the Liaison of Independent
Filmmakers of Toronto, is presented annually to an individual
who has provided extraordinary support to the cause
of independent filmmaking in Toronto.
This year’s recipient is Martin Heath, who has
enriched Toronto's independent film community for thirty
years with his giant enthusiasm for film, his magnificent
sense of sharing and his commitment to things alternative.
He is almost synonymous with his beloved CineCycle,
the Toronto hub for avant-garde and marginal film, video
and occasionally performance. It is also home to his
extensive collections of rare films and filmmaking and
projection equipment. Martin, in the role of senior
film revisor, has worked with the Toronto International
Film Festival since its 1976 inception. The film wisdom,
local history, experience and rescued parts Martin generously
shares with individuals and organisations have been
integral to the support and growth of film and filmmakers
in Toronto. |
