Each year Images screens more than 100 short and feature-length
films and videos from around the world, selected from
hundreds of submissions, to compete for our annual awards.
These programs form the backbone of the festival, spanning
every genre, from unconventional narratives and animation
to documentaries and experiments in cinematic form.

Curated by Laura U. Marks of Simon Fraser University,
these two programs - one of short works, the other consisting
of Mohamed Soueid’s documentary feature Nightfall
- give us a taste of a powerful movement in the media
arts that has emerged over the past decade in Lebanon
and other Arab countries. |

This new series extends the ideas introduced in the
2003 “Urban Space, Media & Technology”
symposium, investigating human relationships with our
natural and constructed environments. This year’s
program includes two unusual documentaries and four
gallery installations. |

the subject of war snakes through this year’s
festival. Included are a talk on the US military’s
incursions into culture, a set of three films about
the automation of war and two feature films make points
about resistance in war. |
