North America's largest exhibitor of independent and experimental moving image culture is currently seeking an Executive Director The person in this position will work in a collaborative environment to plan and execute a successful 2015 festival involving multiple exhibition sites and events, and public, corporate and community partners. This is a year-round position reporting to the Board of Directors. Images is a dynamic workplace and annual forum for excellence and innovation in contemporary media art.
The Images Festival, based in Toronto and in its 28th year, features artist-made Canadian and international film and video and related new media, installations and live performances. This 10-day festival combines theatrical screenings with gallery-based media art installations and live performances. Images also features symposia, artists' talks, special curated programs, touring programs, year-round programming and publications alongside its annual competition selection of moving image artworks.
Position Summary: The Executive Director of the Images Festival provides leadership to staff and volunteers in managing all operations and affairs of the festival and fulfilling the mandate of the organization. The ED administers the general operations of the organization under the direction of the Board of Directors in a way that is consistent with approved goals, objectives and policies.
Operational Planning and Management •Managing all personnel issues, including supervision and hiring and conducting performance reviews, with the involvement and approval in all cases of the Board. •Creating and maintaining a team-based environment within the office. •Liaising between staff and the Board; overseeing the implementation of policies developed by the Board of Directors. •Providing staff leadership and support to the Images Board of Directors through participation in an ex-officio capacity at meetings of the Board, Executive Committee and other standing committees and the annual planning meeting of the Board. Assisting the Chair of the Board in developing agenda and materials for Board meetings. •Providing staff leadership to the Board in developing and implementing operational plans and translating strategic and long range plans into measurable actions, including current collaborative building project; •Preparing monthly reports and statements on the Images Festival's operations and financial business for Board meetings. •Providing other information as necessary to the Board of Directors.
Financial Management and Development •Overseeing the financial and risk management of the organization in conjunction with the Board, including funding, budgeting and reporting processes. •Writing of public and private grant proposals in compliance with deadlines established for each; collection and maintenance of all data and records required fulfilling the reporting requirements for such grants. •Managing the financial business of the Images Festival, including, but not limited to, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and remittances, development of an annual budget and preparation of and participation in the annual financial audit of the Images Festival in conjunction with the Treasurer of the Board. •Implementing a strategic business plan developed by and in conjunction with the Board; •Corporate and community fundraising and development. Maintaining current relationships with corporate and other private sector sponsors. •Ensuring that the organization maintains strong, positive relationships with funders and donors through ongoing contact and comprehensive programs to reinforce these relationships, with appropriate staff and Board support. •Conducting with the Board an annual evaluation of the Festival.
Festival Profile and Sustainability •Providing leadership and assistance to the fundraising efforts of the organization, working towards ensuring long-term financial viability and stability through broad-based support from various constituencies, in keeping with a strategy of funds diversification. •Developing, implementing and maintaining an artistic profile for the Images Festival, in conjunction with, and with the approval of, the Artistic Director and the Board. •Working with the Artistic Director and Operations Manager to identify new program or funding opportunities in support of the organization's work and in accordance with priorities identified by the Board of Directors. •Contributing to the development of program and project proposals for funding, in consultation with appropriate staff. •Working with the Board, Fundraising Committee and appropriate staff to implement strategic fundraising initiatives •In conjunction with the Board, advocating on behalf of the organization's mandate and priorities with internal and external stakeholders and constituencies.
PR, Outreach and Networking •Developing and maintaining the Images Festival's community profile, including marketing, publicity and promotions. •Communicating the organization's broad strategic directions, vision and goals to appropriate internal and external stakeholders. •Overseeing the development and delivery of quality communication and materials to both internal and external constituencies. •Representing the Images Festival at associated meetings and events.
Qualifications •Minimum 5-years experience managing an arts or culture-related organization/corporation; •Deep knowledge of the not for profit arts sector and public/government granting processes; •Experience with fundraising, corporate and foundation funding/development processes; •Demonstrated grant and proposal writing and editing skills; •Well organized, self motivated, strong communication skills working in a team environment; •Detail oriented with an ability to multitask and meet often-overlapping deadlines; •Demonstrated experience in managing staff and volunteers; •Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies; •Comfort with public speaking and engagement with media, public and stakeholders; •Demonstrated budget creation and monitoring skills; •Comfortable in a Mac-based environment (including strong working knowledge of Filemaker Pro and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook) Additionally, experience with Adobe Creative Suite, websites and OS X server are considered strong assets); •Fluency in both official languages is considered an asset.
Salary and benefits •This is a salaried year-round full time position, 5 days per week; •Salary range is commensurate with experience; •Supplementary health benefits •2 weeks vacation, plus 2 weeks paid each at holiday closure and summer closure.

The Images Festival is seeking a Front of House / Venue Manager North America’s largest exhibitor of independent and experimental moving image culture is currently seeking a Front of House / Venue Manager. The person in this position will work in a collaborative environment to plan and execute a successful 2015 Festival (April 9-18) involving multiple exhibition sites and events, and public, corporate and community partners. Images is a dynamic workplace and annual forum for excellence and innovation in contemporary media art. Summary: This contract position acts as the Venue Manager for our festival venues, coordinating our box office systems and working closely with on site interns, volunteers, staff and board to successfully manage our public face by providing excellent customer service and management. The Front of House / Venue Manager’s responsibilities include: -Management and development of box office systems in conjunction with festival staff; -Prepare worksheets & reporting forms for each event’s attendance, ticket & merchandise sales; -Co-ordination of venue logistics; program protocols -Supervision and management of on-site box office, including daily reconciliation, tracking and spreadsheet input, with support from Operations Manager; -Open and close box office for each screening, stock float, tally event sales & attendance totals, provide daily reports to Operations Manager who will reconcile and deposit; -Supervision of advance ticket sales at box offices during festival; -Liaise with staff at venues to coordinate front-of-house systems; -Manage general set-up and tear down of front of house for screenings (putting up signage, setting up and taking down info table); -Overseeing & maintaining Media sign-in systems when required; -Supervision of interns and volunteers for box office, venues Additionally -Provide a Venue Manager Post Mortem Report within 30 days of contract termination; -Provide feedback, suggestions and/or recommendations to the Executive Director and/or Board Reporting Relationship The Front of House / Venue Manager reports directly to the Operations Manager and receives support and direction from the Executive Director of The Images Festival. Qualifications: Experience, Skills, Knowledge + Abilities: •Minimum two (2) years experience with front of house/venue management; • Comfortable working in a fast paced and challenging environment; •Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team setting; •Organized, detail-oriented and able to problem solve; •Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize; •Able to work flexible hours when needed; •Must be able to meet deadlines and work under pressure; •Strong communication, written and organizational skills are imperative. •Experience managing staff and volunteers •Must be available all 10 days of the festival (April 9-18) Compensation Salary range is subject to confirmation of hours and commensurate with experience; this is an approximate six-week contract with a combination of part time and full time hours.
