Images enlisted Canadian new media artist, theoretician and York University professor Don Sinclair as a guest curator for our 2005 web-based projects. Ten online artworks were selected from entries, accessible through links from the Images website as well as available to the public on workstations at the Images Mediatheque and Online Lounge.

The artists featured in Reflection hold up a virtual mirror asking us to consider ourselves through our actions, perspectives, and experiences.  Some utilize well-known forms as vehicles for self-exploration. An interactive non-linear self-portrait provides an intimate, choose-your-own-path style narrative, a stack of passports and identification cards are intertwined using a true/false/maybe interface, and a game is used as a metaphor for exploration of emotional states. Others put us in their place, prompting us to see what they see through hypermedia narratives exploring parenting, family, disability, domesticity, and loss. Increasing access to global cultures and events has allowed artists to both focus on the brutality of humanity and on what the people of the new metropolis will look like. News media is filtered both literally and figuratively. A truly global project creates a dynamic virtual sculpture through a huge collection of works.
