Images Festival regrets to announce that Sarah-Tai Black has resigned from her position as the festival’s Programmer. During her time at Images, Sarah-Tai developed incredible programs that reflected her commitment to engage a politic of resistance and to advocate for broader representation across the media arts landscape. She was also instrumental in executing the logistics across all of our festival programs.
We wish to acknowledge that, despite her numerous contributions to the festival, the organization posed a number of obstacles for Sarah-Tai and her work. Throughout her time at Images, Sarah-Tai offered urgent critiques of how organizational structures, policies, and work practices impacted her experience. These critiques have informed the organization’s commitment to review, develop, and implement festival-wide changes to our vision, mission, values and strategic priorities, with the goal of creating a safer, more accessible environment for our staff, visiting artists, community members, and partners. While the work of accounting for and implementing these changes is underway and Images remains committed to the stated outcome, we recognize that the process did not move at the pace needed to address Sarah-Tai’s concerns in a meaningful way, and that we fell short of fostering an environment that could sustain her place within the organization.
We wish her the very best in her future pursuits.
